Menopause Stress Relief
1) Of all the menopause stress relief activities I teach, my favorite is breath-work.
To begin, breathe out. This may seem simplistic, but when you’re feeling anxious, chances are you’ve already taken a breath in without realizing it.
Now that you have some room in your lungs, take a deep breath in. Now do it again. Breathe in for a count of 3, and out for a count of 5. Do this for 15 minutes – just sitting and counting your breaths. This will keep your mind occupied, chatter internal monologue, and calm down that little puppy-dog mind currently chasing it’s tail!
Now, if you’re a Type A personality, you’re ego is probably screaming, “I barely have time to breath, let alone sit and breath!” but I assure you, this is time well spent!
Meditation (focusing your mind one one thing that you CHOOSE to think about) is the quickest way I know of to calm yourself and recharge your batteries. If meditation is new to you, simply click this link and follow the video! Daily meditation will also help you sleep more soundly, and we all know how vital a good night sleep is!
2) Eating a sound nutritious diet is always important, but even more so when you’re under stress and feeling anxious. You may be tempted to skip meals when you’re busy and stressed, but your body won’t like it!
This practice will deplete your energy and expand your waistline! You’re better off keeping lots of low calorie low fat munchies readily available, and push tempting goodies to the back of the fridge! Small, frequent meals will be easy to digest, and keep your energy level high.
3) Keep active! Get out and walk when weather permits – bundle up and do it any way when it doesn’t!
Nothing zaps your energy like stress — and nothing de-stresses like a brisk 30 minute walk, or other aerobic activity. This really is time invested in your health that will pay dividends, fast!
You’ll feel calm and refreshed, revitalized, bright and alert, with a fresh positive outlook.
