indexGot the February Blahs? As I write this the sun is shining in, the snow glistening, but I’m very glad I don’t have to be out in it!
So how do you stay in a positive mind set even when it seems there’s no end to the freezing, sniffling and sneezing? Well many people opt to escape for a week or two, but for those of us who choose not to, here are a few suggestions to get you through to spring!
My top 3 tips to beat the blahs:
1) Start a happy thoughts list. Similar to a gratitude list, this will raise your vibe and bring you a sunny disposition, especially if you do it 1st thing in the morning. These can be happy thoughts in general, or they can be specific. Or even, things you’re looking forward to – like spring lol!
2) While you write that list, sit beside a sunlight lamp that gives you a high dose of UV rays. These can greatly reduce the effects of SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder), enhance your mood and boost your energy. I swear by mine, I use it from Oct – April and have for years, and never experience the symptoms of SAD anymore. Such a relief!
3) Get up and MOVE! Regular activity will reduce stress, get you away from the kitchen, and increase your energy. Mid winter is a great time to shake things up a bit – try something new that will get you interacting with others and increase your fitness. That way, when it’s shorts season again, you won’t discover they mysteriously shrank while sitting in your closet all these months!
Even if you don’t want to leave the house to take a course or hit the gym, it’s a great time to snag some new exercise equipment on sale. My current favs are my treadmill and rebounder, and of course belly dancing.
